about miss tashina

My skills have allowed me to offer my clients: tailoring/alterations for their wedding gowns, gown surgery on vintage dresses/heirlooms, restoration of vintage gowns, and hand-made custom wedding gowns made from new & re-purposed materials. My gowns + work are the perfect pairing for the unique + vintage-loving bride.

I am always creating + making. When I’m not working on a client's project: I love the stillness of working on a jigsaw puzzle, a delicious coffee, cooking/baking, and will never turn down a travel adventure (I'm looking at you Mount Kilimanjaro)!

When I was 16, I started in the alterations department at a bridal salon (after a short seasonal stint at JoAnn's; RIP). I learned the ins-and-outs of bridal gowns and working with brides. I grew up sewing (taught by my mother who dressed us in garments she made) and dreaming I could be my Aunt Sunny/Morisane (who was a designer in the 80s/90s in NYC) and visiting her showroom + attending her fashion shows (see photo of baby Tashina in an outfit my mom made, sitting below The Garment Worker sculpture on 7th Ave in 1987). I caught the fashion bug very young. During my adolescence, I created my wardrobe from things I have bought from charity/thrift shops and reworked to make them my own. Also creating countless outfits from scratch and prom dresses, for myself and friends. Over the years, I worked in various bridal salons buying & selling gowns, managing/working in clothing boutiques and styling. And as time passed, more of my friends got married and they all started asking me to make their gowns. While doing that, I realized I really LOVED working closely with my brides to create custom gowns + recreating family heirloom pieces to wear on their wedding day. Throughout the process, the gowns become my little masterpieces. And it is, truly, such a pleasure to see them adorned by my gorgeous brides.
